Physical Education & Health
During our short time together in the month of June, students played some baseball and grades 3-8 took their second PACER Test of the year. Our younger students also got to play some of their favorite parachute games once again.
The PACER is a standardized fitness test to measure a student's cardiovascular endurance. All classes, on average, saw improvement from when they took the PACER at the beginning of the year!
Here is a breakdown of the average % change per student on the PACER Test by class
8th +9.18%
7th +1.37%
6th +58.89%
5th +15.93%
4th +23.98%
3rd +28.75%
Impressive results and a job well done by all students to work on improving their fitness level during the school year!
Have a wonderful summer vacation!
Welcome students and parents! A little about me:
I taught PE for 5 years at St. Andrew's Country Day School in Kenmore until its closing and am thrilled to be here at OLV! When I am not teaching I play recreational touch football almost year-round and in a kickball league part of the year. I also enjoy disc golf, park golf (ask me about it sometime!), and biking. One of my favorite things to do is cook, especially making some delicious game day recipes for Bills games.
Grading policy:
Physical Education: 80% daily effort, participation, conduct, 20% assessments
8th grade Health: 60% class work, 20% projects, 20% tests/quizzes
From the May 2025 newsletter:
Phys Ed- Students have been practicing net sports such as volleyball, badminton, pickleball, and nitroball. They also played the closely related games of newcomb and 4 square. Middle school students completed a doubles volleyball tournament, and played some badminton matches against their classmates. They also played some 4 square and learned to play nitroball.
Health 8- We wrapped up our unit on drug education and have started studying nutrition. They have been researching nutrition information from some of their favorite fast food restaurants and seeking out healthier choices from these restaurants.
Philosophy: I believe all students should be provided with a variety of activities that allows them to explore several different ways to be physically active. The goal is to provide students with enjoyment, competition and motivation to want to be physically active through the remainder of their lives. Students will also learn about what it means to live a happy and healthy lifestyle.
